EDM technicque on plastic mold making£º
EDM technique has a strong position in mould manufacturing
industry. Manufacturing of most moulds uses this technique.
Its major advantages lie in that it can process materials
of any hardness, and manufacture complex & delicate profiles.
The most attracting virtue is that EDM technique can realize
automation with high precision and little failures.
Electric discharge machining is a kind of
copy forming technique: Eliminate material through short,
continuous electric discharging in an insulated solution.
Hydrocarbon is a standard insulator. Substance containing
soluble organic acid using water as medium can be also used.
Tool electrode is usually machined to the shape of mould
to copy mould¡¯s profile. Under the impact of continuous
electric discharging, materials on the work piece and electrode
are heated to fusion or gasification temperature and burst
out under electronic or mechanical force. By rational selection
of technical parameters, material amount removed on the
work piece can be much more than that on electrode, which
can even reach or exceed 1000£º1.
Normally£¬if a conductive material exhibits
favorable heat conductivity, thus it can be used as electrode.
In most cases, the fusion point of these materials can be
high enough to prevent rapid wear and tear of tool electrode.
Nowadays, steel is used for graphite and copper electrodes,
hard metal is used for copper tungsten electrodes.
